Will upgrading to the new release of Ubuntu in 5 days cause problems with my dual boot config with XP?

I know that upgrades of Ubuntu generate new kernels in the GRUB. Considering that the new release is coming out soon (10.10--Maverick Meerkat), will this mess up my dual boot of Karmic Koala and Windows XP? In other words, if I install Maverick Meerkat over the Karmic Koala without modifying any partitions, will I need to prune out the older kernel entry for KK in my GRUB? And will it affect the bootloader for XP? Thanks.
