How do they sharpen katana's today and how did they in the old days?

traditional katana's are still sharpened the same way today as they were in the old days. basically the sword is ped over a stone on each side and this is repeated over 500 times. (the process can take several days) It takes a real artisan to do this. Factory made swords are usually sharpened with modern industrial tools.
